RIB Finalizes the Industry’s First Specification Content and User Experience Advisory Committee

Following an overwhelming response to the announcement of a groundbreaking new program, RIB has finalized a committee of 20 top industry professionals that bring expertise from all disciplines.

ATLANTA, March 6th, 2019Building Systems Design, Inc. (RIB), the leading provider of master guide specification writing software for the architecture, engineering, construction, and owner sectors, announced today the members of the main steering committee for the new Specification Content and User Experience Advisory Committee.

Former CSI Board Chair Ron L. Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, CSC, SCIP, and owner of RLGA Technical Services, worked with RIB to develop the program and will lead the committee in a comprehensive review of SpecLink’s content, style guide and user experience.

The Program
RIB is fiercely committed to quality and consistency, employing an experienced staff of design professionals who continuously update and add to SpecLink content daily.

The new committee will enhance RIB’s longstanding review system by considering operability along with content and including expert insight across all industry disciplines. The committee’s comprehensive review will improve the quality of both existing and expanded SpecLink content, along with the user experience.

“The depth and scope of this review program is an industry first,” said Chip Bullock, RIB’s Director of AEC Content. “Our committee of A/E/C/O industry veterans represents all professional disciplines and will offer insight and improvements to serve the broader needs of the facility construction ecosystem by providing a 360-degree view of the entire process.”

The Committee
The volunteers selected for the Specification Content and User Experience Advisory Committee are highly experienced specifiers who represent diverse backgrounds and firms.

Committee members will meet quarterly over a three-year term to review all 793 sections of content on a rolling basis. The committee will consider content structure, accuracy, relevancy, and currency, with a particular focus on Division 01, healthcare, and sustainability sections.

“RIB has always incorporated user feedback to improve its products,” said Ron Geren, “but this process will now be significantly enhanced by drawing on the extensive experience of committee members to thoroughly review all specification content and software enhancements before public release.”
Among their responsibilities, the committee will:

  • Review specification sections and comment on the content structure, accuracy, relevancy, and currency.
  • Review proposed features, comment on the functionality of existing features and suggest possible features to explore.
  • Revise the style guide used by RIB specifiers to ensure consistency between specification sections.

In acknowledgment of the overwhelming response to the Specification Content and User Experience Advisory Committee, and to ensure that all subscribers have a voice that is heard, RIB will be forming a series of key focus groups to provide an avenue for input to the main steering committee.

The focus groups will provide feedback and advice about specific areas of interest within specifications, and may address a particular design discipline, building type, specification division or specialty. In addition to the main steering committee, industry experts within specific fields will be consulted for these focused efforts.

If you are interested in participating in a focus group, please contact Ron Geren at 602.569.9645 or email ron@specsandcodes.com.

Now that the evaluation process is complete, RIB is thrilled to introduce the members of the main steering committee for the new Specification Content and User Experience Advisory Committee. Learn more about the members of the committee by visiting our Advisory Committee Members page.
