Atlanta, GA, December 8, 2020 — RIB SpecLink announces the public launch of a new API allowing building product manufacturers to extend their existing Revit plugins to provide customized specifications to the design team.
As products are selected in Revit, the API can quickly return the pre-edited guide specifications in both Microsoft Word and SpecLink format, providing the wider design team with access to the technical information required to specify the list of products and assemblies identified in the model.
“We are responding to a more focused effort by manufacturers to influence the specification process through BIM,” says Matt Johnson, Senior Product Manager at RIB SpecLink. “Customized Revit plugins, product configurators, and sustainability tools allow them to provide assistance at complex steps in the process where the design team may need the most help. Providing a pre-edited specification reduces the work expected of a team’s specification writer and the likelihood that a proprietary decision is going to be replaced by a generic equivalent.”
“We’re seeing a substantial investment from our manufacturer clients in BIM-focused design tools. We wanted to deliver a way to add a specification capability that didn’t require a manufacturer’s users to leave their application and start over with a stand-alone configurator or checklist,” said Ryan Cummings, VP of Product.
